I'm Charles, and that should be obvious by my name above. I'm not sure I "am" a photographer but I take quite a few photographs, and I take them in a very involved and passionate manner.

I've had a camera ever since I was 12. I've been looking at things with curiosity for all my life, but more systematic attempts at using a viewfinder to translate my odd views into "camera language" only started around 2014.

I was born in Brazil, where I currently live. I spent two years in Paris as a child, studying in a public French school. I also lived briefly in the US twice - once as an undergrad exchange student, the other doing tech translation work for Microsoft. I've also spent a short but very interesting time in Sydney, and obviously only after a year I discovered that Melbourne was the real place to be for shooting people who are not really into clothes.

Most of my so-called "career" (that thing most of us do that is related to money but not necessarily our most beloved thing per se) was dedicated to translating, editing and publishing books. When I decided to stop working for the publishing industry, I began exploring diverse ways to photograph people, sometimes places, sometimes things.

I have created a magazine called WASEmag (We Are Something Else) as I felt creative "nude" photographers don't ever shoot nudity itself, but rather strip most everything they can to comment on different aspects of being human. As of December 2023 it is on stand-by, but I hope to get it back to the meaningful place it deserves.

I hope you enjoy my writings and don't hesitate to send me mail if you ever want to exchange some ideas!
